For my e-asttle recount writing result I got a 4A. I was really happy with my result. When I first started writing a recount I found it very hard but when kept trying and trying I found it very easy. I could now write a recount and my result is improving. Next time I will try and get a 5B or 5P.

Cell phones do not belong in the classroom
Walt: write a speech
Should cell phones be allowed in class?
Greetings to you all. My name is Camille and today I will be speaking to you about the subject, should cell phones be allowed in class.
I have a list of advantages and disadvantages of having a cell phone in the classroom.
Let's start off with the advantages.
According to www.answer.com did you know that 72% of people agree with the idea of having cell phones in class and 28% disagree.
There are many advantages of having a cell phone in class. One of the advantages are. When you have your cell phone in class your parents will be able to contact you when there's any emergency going on such as accidents and funerals.
These days every cell phone has a camera RIGHT. Well using that camera on your phone is very helpful because when you want to take a photo of any class projects you can just press the button and there you have it. Then you wouldn’t need to spend much time trying to figure out how to take a photo on your netbook.
My last advantage is that when you have your cell phone in class you will be able to take notes on your phone which would be much easier. Then you wouldn’t have to worry about forgetting any school work that needs to be done because you can just look at your phone and then you will know what to do. Isn’t this really awesome.
Now let's look at the disadvantages. At this stage I want to tell you that the disadvantages trump the advantages. (Even though some of the advantages are slightly beneficial).
I strongly believe that having a cell phone in the classroom is a major distraction. According to this comic strip (Show comic strip) when you have your cell phone in the classroom, you will be tempted to text and call your friends. When the teacher is teaching, you’d probably blame the teacher for distracting you but NO, it's actually you that’s getting distracted by your cell phone.
When you have your cell phones in the class you will never know that someone might steal your phone because there can be some thieves around here. Then when you find out that you have lost your phone you would freak out and get angry. Then the teacher would be involved and your class would have to wait until the teacher is finished with sorting out your business.
In addition having a cell phone in class is another way of cheating. Some children can be tempted to cheat when doing any test or they can just text a friend to tell them the answer. Children these days are very smart when it comes to hiding their cell phones. Children can hide their cell phones in their desk and the teacher might be thinking that he or she is getting something out of their desk but actually he or she is cheating.
In my opinion I say that cell phones should not be allowed in the classrooms they should just stay at home don’t you agree. I hope you have gave this topic a very good thought. Thank you for listening.

Reading e-astle
My e-asttle reading result was a 4p. I was very happy with my result. I have improved my reading result from last time. I did well because I listened when my teacher was talking in reading and because I focused on my learning and I took it very serious because I really wanted a high result. I am so happy for my result, but next I would like to improve and get a higher result in reading.

The champions are back
I wish I went to Victoria park to celebrate the All Blacks coming back with the winning trophy. It would be really awesome if this was in the weekend but not on school days so that I could see the All Blacks.

Persuasive Letter
Dear Mr Hendricks
Should lunchtime be shortened?
I think that we shouldn't reduce our lunchtime to half an hour. The reasons are because it is boring at home and I can learn something after lunchtime.
Firstly, it’s boring at home because I always have to look after my younger siblings and I find it really boring just sitting on the couch and watching out for the little ones. I’d rather stay at school to learn and play fun games with my friends. Obviously there is no point of shortening our lunchtime.
Secondly, you can still learn something fun after lunchtime like art and topic study. Everyone likes art and topic study so why should we shorten our lunchtime to ½ an hour because the teachers can still teach something after lunchtime.
In conclusion, for the above reasons, I believe that our lunchtime should not be shortened.
Yours sincerely
Camille

Thank you letter
24th of September
Dear Ms Parkes
Thank you so much for helping us improve our writing this year. Your suggestions were very helpful.
The Diamante poem is one of the things that I enjoyed. I enjoyed doing this because it was something new and it was fun too. In my diamante poem, I described the Black Piranha and Electric Eel. It turned out amazing and real fun to read.
I found the 4x4 poem very helpful because it taught me about adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and nouns. It was awesome finding words that described me. I still need help with this poem because sometimes I find it difficult describing other things. Next term, I will practice writing a 4x4 poem to get it right.
Your suggestion you gave to my teacher to record our voice while reading out our story was good for checking if our story made sense. When I recorded mine, I found that some of my sentences didn't make sense so I had to go back and edit it. This was a really good suggestion.
In term 4, I will try my best to improve my writing and I will practice on what I need to learn on more. I really appreciate you helping us with our writing. Thank you very much Mrs Parkes.
Yours sincerely:
Camille

Deci-mat
WALT: understand place value of decimals using a deci-mat.
To understand place values of decimal I played a game with Yazmin, Andrea, and Samuel. We all took turns rolling two types of dice. One dice had fraction on it and the other dice just had numbers on it.
In my first picture, 1 whole is divided into tenths. Andrea roll the dice and it land it on two tenths. The red represents two tenths.
In the second picture, 1 whole is divided into hundredths. I rolled the dice and it gave us seven hundredths. I colored it in with the colour yellow.
In the last picture, 1 whole is divided into thousandths. This time Yazmin rolled the dice and it landed on nine thousandths. The colour red represents nine thousands.
I found this game very easy because I had a good understanding of place values of decimals. I didn't find anything difficult. Next I will like to learn about percentages.

the Black Piranha
WALT: write a descriptive paragraph
It was a wonderful Saturday afternoon for fishing. The sun was up shining very bright. My father Jonathan loves fishing. He would go out for fishing nearly every day to catch fish for supper. On every Saturday (if it’s a nice weather), he would take his son out for fishing.
They were fishing along one of South Americas rivers. This was Jonathan's favourite river because he would mostly catch a black piranha. Jonathan wanted to catch a black piranha so he can show it to Luke. Luke has never seen a black piranha before so his father wanted to surprise him.
As they were fishing, Luke’s fishing rod was coming back up so his dad went over to help him pull it up. To their surprise it was a black piranha. Luke was so surprised. His dad was so happy that Luke caught a black piranha.
The Black Piranha is distinctive and has a very dark colour. Its teeth are very sharp and it's a fearsome hunter. The Black Piranha has a tatty body because other Piranha come and eat the tail and fins. This fish has a stocky body and burning red eyes. This fish moves incredibly fast. Watch out for the black piranha because it can bite you.
When it was time to leave, Luke was smiling all the way to the car. He was so happy that he caught a black piranha. Fishing has become so fun that Luke wanted to go every weekend.

Milo Mug
WALT: Design our own NZ milo mug
First we had to draw 4 or 5 design on a piece of paper. The design was based on New Zealand patterns.
When we finished drawing our designs we had to select one drawing and then outline it on the mug with a pencil. After that we have to go over the outline with a vivid. This is how my mug turned out.

Hockey
Today in the morning we went to hockey. A lady named Lydia was coaching us. First we did a warm up and then we went to go sit behind a hockey stick. Before we started Lydia told us about a safety rule. She told us to keep the hockey stick below our knees and to also bend your knees so you won’t get a sore back.

The pythons dinner
WALT: work with two others to write a narrative.
One hot afternoon, an African Rock Python felt very hungry. He needed to eat. He decided to seek out his prey. The python thought that maybe most of his prey might be near a water source so he thought he had to find a lake as clear as a crystal. “Hssss,” the python was desperate for food as he slithered through the dirt. The pythons process was slow.....but steady. He finally reaches a water source. A lake in the middle of nowhere. He could hold his breath for 15 minutes then.......
The python said “ I’m ready to eat those stinky springboks”. The python waited till dawn for a springbok to arrive. The python waited and waited for the stupid springbok to arrive, but it never came. It was getting darker and the python was still waiting. “Grrrrrr”. The python's stomach was growling. Poor python was waiting too long for those springbok to arrive. He was feeling tired and almost decided to give up.
Then the next day, a huge herd of springbok rushed down to the lake like fast cheetahs. “MMMM YUMMY YUMMY, HERE THEY COME,” the python said happily. The stupid springbok stood on the edges and they drank the water for a long time. The python jumped up with its mouth open wide and swallowed the springbok. “Dinner was YUMMY”
The python was lucky enough that the springbok was big which meant that the python didn’t need to eat for another whole year.
Reflections
I think that this was easy for me because my grouped worked well and we wrote a perfect story. I wish to work with partners when we do writing because it is easier, faster and also because I like working in a group.

Grammar - present tense
In this game I had to read the sentence and then I had to fill in the gap with one of the words that were given above the sentence. I thought this was easy because I knew my present tense. I would like to play more of this but challenging ones. Next I will like to learn about possessive nouns.

WALT: do a maths test
For maths, I did a basic facts test online. I was doing stage 6. I did this stage many times because I kept getting the adding and subtracting to 1000 wrong. In this I needed to know my addition, subtraction, adding and subtracting to 1000, and multiplication. I only got 2 wrong in this test. I am now on to stage 7.

Ratio blaster
In this game, I had to find the equal ratio of these above. To solve this I needed to know my equal ratios. When I first played it, I found it hard but then as I played it a few times I started to get a good understanding of it. I went up to level 4. I still think I need to play this game because I want to get up to a higher level than 4. Next I want to learn about proportion.

Learning Ratios through baking
Yesterday we baked muffins. The reason was to understand the concept of ratio. Ratio is comparing two things or article. I am going to compare the ingredients from the yoghurt muffin we made. I am going to compare oil to sugar. The ratio of oil to sugar is 75g : 100g.
The simplest form of oil to sugar is 3 : 4.
For every 3 parts of oil there are 4 parts of sugar.

Possessive nouns
In this game, I had to look at the picture and then choose the correct possessive form. At first I thought this was going to be hard but when I tried a few questions, it became too easy for me. I didn't know what possessive meant but then when Mr. Drown explained it to me, I started to understand it. I think I still want to learn more about possessive noun.

Birthday
The people above are celebrating their birthday today.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!.
First of all is Donald Duck. Donald Duck is 81 years old he was created by W.Disney on 1934. Donald duck is my favourite character in Mickey Mouse. When I was little I would enjoy watching Donald Duck on Mickey Mouse.
The second person I would like to wish a happy birthday to is Koliata. Koliata is in my class and he has turned 13. This is his last year here in intermediate.
Last but not least is Miss Mary. Miss Mary is our office lady and she has been in our school for very long. She helps us when we are hurt and she prepares lunch for those who don't have lunch.
I would like to wish all these special people a happy birthday. I wish you all the best on your birthdays. I hope you have a good day on your birthdays.

Addition and Subtraction
In this game I had to add and subtract. I found this very easy. In this problem I used addition to work out the answer. I add 10 and 8 which gave me 18 and that was my answer. Next I would like to get more challenging addition problems. Maybe in the 3 or 4 digit numbers.

Fizzing and Foaming
WALT: write a science report
Our class carried out an investigation to see what happens when mentos lollies are mix with diet coke.
The mentos pellets were slotted into the bottle of diet coke. This formed a mixture with
diet coke and there was a violent reaction. We could hear the fizzing and bubbles forming. The foam erupted and spilt all over the bottle. As it spilt over the bottle it spun around like a top. The foam was like the foam on top of a milkshake.
Explanation:
Mentos has pores and when it is mixed with diet coke which it forms a new substance. When this new substance is formed it is mixed with the gas in the diet coke and then it forms bubbles and fizz which is the carbon dioxide. When there are more bubbles and fizz it will escape from the bottle and then it will erupt.
